Session 9

12th of Flamerule:
Yesterday had gone good with us making good time and the night had passed uneventful, unfortunately not all days can pass as such. As we were travelling across some rolling hills we noticed some bugbears hauling ass across the hills looking fearfully behind them. Following their looks we were greeted with the sight of two of their fellows struggling to catch up only to have this creature erupt from the ground below them. It landed on one of them ripping him to shreds and turned toward the other ready to do the same. Wolftracker seeing a challenge charged with Franklin and Tordek right behind I planned on staying back and joined Roksharr in sending arrows down range Alistair started blasting with spells and Merlo healed when needed. The battle was a ferocious one but we emerged victorious with not that many wounded and after Merlo healed up the ones hit we moved on.
13th of Flamerule:
When we made it to Crazy Jared’s it appeared we were just in time. There was a group of Dracotaurs 11 to be exact mounting an attack on his “castle”. When we appeared they veered towards us and charged. That was fine with us and we headed towards them ready to do battle, well at least some of or more battle crazy members did. I decided to work my way around the main group to try and get in behind them. Franklin charged their leader. Wolftracker waded in with his two maces smashing aside Dracotaurs with Tordek next to him. Roksharr stayed on his mount and started blasting away with his bow and Alistair was blasting away with his spells. At one point there were a couple in a line and Alistair blasted them with a line of lightning, that was new. Crazy Jared came out and was singing some song about heroes and knights and it bolstered or confidence as the battle raged on. We of course were victorious and after a brief rest got with Jared and he told us what we needed to know. We spent the night in his glade and moved out the next morning.
14th of Flamerule:
After a good night of rest we headed out to “The Pit of Seven Jaws”. Sounded ominous enough at least. Don’t know what it all meant but trying to get a straight answer from some crazy dude, who thought we were some knights of, hells I don’t know, is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. So I took his crazy talk with a grain of salt and gleaned what I could off the top of it. Franklin had a nice little chat with him about that sword of his though and he seemed coherent enough when talking about it so maybe the craziness was just an act. Either way we headed on our way and made it to the pit. When we arrived it was apparent that or horses were not going to be able to continue on our journey with us and I for one was not just going to leave my horse out in the wilderness. After a heated debate the group finally came to their senses and agreed with me that the best course of action would be to take them back to Crazy Jared’s place and hopefully he would be able to take care of them until our return. I don’t know about some of them but my horse was a gift and I like him I am not about to just leave him out in the wilds where displacer beasts and dracotaurs and the Gods know what else might be lurking out here. So we spent the night once more in Crazy Jared’s glade and headed out on foot the next day.
15th of Flamerule:
We arrived back at the entrance to the Underdark and there was a long stair case leading down into darkness Wolftracker took the lead with Roksharr next and then Franklin. They were about the only ones on the stairs when we found out why this was called the Pit of Seven Jaws. Out of the darkness came a roar followed by a blast of cold that froze the rickety stair case along with certain parts of the people in its path. Most of them were able to make out of the way but part of the stair had collapsed leaving Wolftracker on one side of the staircase and the rest of the party was on the other. He charged on down anyway meeting the beast head on so to speak and Roksharr dropped down amid the rubble and started blasting away with his bow. Franklin tried to jump the gap to continue down and help Wolftracker but he must have stumbled right before the edge cuz he didn’t make it and landed amid the rubble with Roksharr. Merlo had cast a fly spell on Tordek and he flew down to engage the creature in battle I moved around the rim to where I could see it and started blasting it with arrows and Alistair started blasting it with fire which seemed like a solid enough plan since it was breathing freezing cold shit out its mouth. We finally got the thing down and someone in the group said it was a cryohydra. Well I don’t really care what it was called I sure as fuck don’t want to run into another one of those things, especially in the cramp confines of the Underdark were there isn’t a good enough spot for me to be out of its reach.
