Session 2

18th of Kythorn (mid-evening):
Well I woke up to the healing hands of Merlo, Mask be praised that we have a healer in our group. While we were sorting everything out, along comes the ugliest half-orc I have ever seen, and believe me I have seen some ugly ones. Short and scrawny his parents must have been a Halfling and an Orc if that is even possible. He came up out of the hole with this huge beetle and a dog with another dog strapped to the back of the beetle. (Maybe food for later?) Well he waved a banner of truce so we gave him a chance to explain himself. It appears he was working freelance with the bad guys, not the most promising start with this group; luckily Roksharr and Tharag didn’t start taking him apart on the spot. (Tharag can be a little overzealous in his personal quest for vengeance on evil.) Well Randal, at least that is what he said we could call him, filled us in on the ins and outs of the group he was travelling with. From what I could tell seems like a pretty straight shooter and the fact that he was the other one “cloudy” in Tharag’s vision is a bonus in my book. I mean shit; I could have ended up in his position. I was looking to get a job to earn some money and it could have been me working for the other side but I might not have left them. If he is telling us the truth got to give him props for having the stones to walk away, hope he got paid up front. I would have wanted at least half up front before I committed. He gave us some information on some of the areas that we were going to pass through, he even told us about an area that was a good ambush site and the creatures we were going to encounter. Tharag told him that if his info was good that it would go a long way toward helping his case. We rested the night so the magic guys could re-memorize their spells and headed back down the hole the next morning
19th of Kythorn:
Tharag insisted Randal head down the hole first so to keep or heavy hitter happy I keep my mouth shut. Dumb goody-to-shoes they think they are being so clever and that the “bad” guys are idiots. Fuckin A they don’t know the first thing about double crossing. If he is going to fuck us over then he won’t show his hand right off he will work to earn our trust then when we aren’t expecting it strike. No sense in trying to explain it to them, their brains can’t comprehend the intricacies of the dubious mind. Well we came to the room with the possible ambush so I checked the door not trapped and used my silent portal disk on the door to make it silent when we opened it. With the door opened I could hear snoring coming from inside so I figured I could just sneak in and slit the throats of the (two?) then we could see about the undead that were also supposed to be in here. Well you know what they say about the best laid plans. As soon as I stepped in the room there must have been some kind of magical trigger cuz the zombies immediately reacted. Two came around the wall at me and another came around the opposite side. Shit so much for surprise, at least from our side of the fight. It started off fairly even Tharag came charging in to confront one of the zombies Alistair started letting magic fly and sizzled the flesh of the undead Roksharr was letting loose a volley of arrows and I was ducking and weaving trying to get off what shots I could. It should have been an easy fight we just weren’t doing the damage we should have been doing. That is when the two that were sleeping joined the fray. The female Varag came tumbling out and threw her sword across the room. So far still looking decent for us we just need to get the damage up. Then the male Varag came out. He started jacking our shit up! Not much longer Tharag was out of the fight bleeding on the floor. Alistair soon followed. Two of our guys were still blocked off from us and one of them was the healer, not the best position to be in. Randal was fighting ferociously against the two rogues and I kept getting a few shots in here and there but just when you thought the male Varag might be going down BAM! He drinks a potion and he is healed up. It was starting to look real bad for the “good” guys. I got around to Tharag and used one of my potions of healing on him to get him back in the fray and as a consequence I got whacked. I was barely keeping my feet; Randal was backed in a corner fighting zombies on one front and that duel wielding bastard on the other front. The female had regained her sword and was carving us up with glee on her face. Merlo and Roksharr were still blocked off. I saw only one option and hopefully it would work. I pulled one of my flaming arrows, worked around the corner so I could see that duel wielding son-of-a-bitch and sent it straight into his fucking skull. That was all I could do and darkness came to embrace me once again. Luckily that was all it took. He dropped like a sack of taters and the smell of crispy Varag flesh was enough to piss of his chicky-poo. With him out of the fight hopefully it would help us out and we could grasp victory from deaths clutching hands. I regained consciousness thanks to Merlo; it seemed they had finally opened a hole so they could get out and help. About time. Tharag was fighting one of the zombies and the female Varag. Must not have been out of it too long. Alistair was back up sending more of his magic down range and soon it was all over. We were victorious. Holy shit! I thought we were going to be goners for sure. Guess that is what happens when you get a little cocky. Well after everyone was back to full heath we decided it would probably be a good idea to stay put for the rest of the day. We were in a fairly defendable position and we had already cleared what was behind us.

20th of Kythorn:
Well we got up with a little bit more respect for or adversaries abilities, (at least I did, don’t know about the rest of the group). As we were ready to continue on, Randal informed us that the next room held some kind of water creature. So far his information was correct and he was proving to be a fairly reliable asset. I opened the door and low and behold the room held a fast rolling canal through the middle of it, and up out of the water came the water creature. Alistair stepped forward and explained that we were here to stop the ones responsible for the desecration of this place and he/she decided we were on the level so it let us pass without molestation. The group being a bunch of pussies decided to go along the upper balcony. I on the other hand knowing fortune favors the bold decided to go the other route, I had noticed a couple of dead “bad” guys and wanted to check out what they were carrying. Lucky for me they had some more loot on their bodies from the tombs and a couple of potions. The best part no one in our group had any idea what I had gotten. With almost 350gp of looted jewelry it was starting to look pretty good for my master end plan. Of course I would also be lying if I said that I wasn’t tempted to just pocket the shit and fence it later, after all 350gp is quite a lot of loot, but if my plan succeeded it would go a long way to putting Tharag and Roksharr at ease. Therefore opening up more opportunities for me to further my own goals in the future. Again the workings of a dubious mind is beyond their comprehension. You just got to learn the stuff that will work in your favor, give a little to gain even more in the future. (HEHEHE). We made it through the room without incident and that opened up into another with statues and more tombs situated behind the statues. Now we were getting somewhere. I tried to convince the group that we should check out these tombs. After all if we acquired anything from them it would be used to further our goals and cleanse the evil from this place. Randal was all for it but of course Tharag, Roksharr, and even Merlo and Alistair was against it. Dammit! This was also the place that Randal had gotten gang raped by that one rogue when he was trying to get away. The story he told us was a little different than the story Roksharr was able to depict from the scene. Well you can’t blame the guy I probably would have embellished it a little also. Well with Tharag directing me (damn paranoid bastard) I went to one of the other doors and checked it for traps upon opening it I noticed this feral looking creature down in the corner. Upon seeing him he realized he wasn’t as hidden as he thought he was and quickly drank a potion disappearing from sight. From the glimpse I had gotten he looked like the rogue who had fucked up Randal. Shouting out to the group and warning them of what was going on we tried to block of the exits to capture or kill this evil creature. Unfortunately, he was able to jump into the canal in the other room and escape but not before revealing his true identity to us. A wererat holy shit! I had heard stories about them even had been told that some of them were in the guild back in Suldolphor but had never seen one. Well there was nothing we could do about it he was gone and our path was laid out in a different direction. We went back into the room that he was hiding in, it looked like another tomb to me, but since that is where Tharag wanted me to go I wasn’t about to argue. Especially since I wanted to loot any way and I could always play it off by saying that he told me to go there. Searching the door I could not find any way to get it opened. So I decided to look at the book held by the statue. Bad idea. I felt this intrusion into my mind but was luckily able to fight it off. Thinking this might be a way to rid ourselves of the meddlesome half-orc I called him over and told him to read the passage in the book. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your point of view, he was able to read it without incident and the passage said:
Two as one can win the day
The one with two shows the way
Brave the blade to break the seal
Twist the knife it will reveal
The quick thinking Alistair remembered that the statues in the main hall were a wizard, a cleric, and twin elves, one held a bow pointing towards this door, and the other held a sword and a dagger. He walked up and twisted the dagger held by the elf and the door in front of me slid open. Inside there was a tomb and seeing my chance I touched the lid and it slid open without any problem. Inside there were five items a Rapier, a Robe, a Quiver, a set of Bracers, and a scroll. Of course everyone had their own ideas on what we should do with the items. Randal and I figured let’s take the shit, and everyone else thought we should leave the stuff. Alistair came forward and read the scroll it stated that if we were going to use the items to help purge the evil from this place to take them. That is pretty plain you can’t argue that right, wrong! The dumbasses in the group then had to go into this big discussion on whether it would be bad for us to take it and of course whatever they believed was the way it should be for everyone. Mask preserve me! You would think with all the Gods up in the heavens they would realize their way isn’t everyone’s way. Again I must say – Fucking goody-to-shoes! Can’t steal around them so pass the beer nuts. Eventually Randal and I got them around to our way of thinking after all if they don’t want to use the shit then don’t. After we got the stuff removed Alistair said he could identify the stuff if we gave him some time and since Merlo said it was all magical we figured that would be a good idea, especially since the next room held the leader of the group Randal was with before he switched sides. So we rested and let Alistair do his thing.
21st of Kythorn:
All rested and ready to do battle we moved up to the next room. I searched it for traps and opened the door again using my silent portal disc. With the door open we could hear the chanting of the evil cleric, raising more of his blasted undead no doubt. Merlo listened in and confirmed that was exactly what he was doing I went in and looked down one hall way and saw that it went down and turned to the right and Alistair went the other way. I moved over to him and saw that the other side held seven tombs all opened and empty six human statues were in front of them and one statue of a Minotaur. Great not just normal undead, if there is such a thing, but a fucking Minotaur. We moved back and relayed the info to the group and devised a strategy.
Roksharr, Alistair and Randal went down the left side. Tharag, Merlo and I moved to the right side. I figured that I could stay at the top of the stairs and pluck arrows at anything that closed into melee range with Tharag. As soon as he hit the bottom of the stairs around the corner comes this fucking huge Minotaur skeleton, great my arrows are going to do jack shit to that. Tharag waded in his long sword swinging and it was apparent that it wasn’t doing the damage it was supposed to do. Meanwhile on the other side, Alistair, Randal, and Roksharr were around the corner and fully embattled with the smaller skeletons. Surprisingly they went down fairly easily. A nice turn for once. Merlo was able to turn the Minotaur skeleton and they were able to move down the hall and join in the main battle against the evil Cleric of Bane. I ran around the other way and by then all the smaller skeletons were laying under a pile of stones. Nice job Alistair. I worked my way around to flank the cleric and lined up my shot nailing him right in the kidney. Oops, did that hurt motherfucker! He cast some spell on Tharag and it didn’t look like Tharag was able to overcome it. Randal, and Alistair had finished of the Minotaur skeleton and it was all over but the crying, the cleric just didn’t realize it yet. We searched out everything I even went over and checked out the tombs while the others were busy but to no avail, they were empty. Randal and I searched the cleric and we found a satchel with some items including a 500gp gem. Randal tried to pocket it but that fucker Roksharr caught him and brought it to the attention of Tharag. Boy did that stir up a shit storm. I was smart enough to stay out of it so I don’t think any of the shit got on me. Around the gem was a note that read “For being part of the vanguard”. Great that means this group was just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. We shall see what we uncover as we continue further down…
