Forgotten Realms: Cauldron
15th of Flamerule (mid-day):
Well with the beast down there were some interesting items littering the floor one of which was a dead drow. He had on him some nice items to include a magical set of mithril chain armor. Since Roksharr needed it he got it. I wonder how he would feel knowing he is wearing armor that was forged for the purpose of evil, oh well. We decided to rest here and regain spells before heading into the Underdark.

Travel was slow considering that only a few of us can actually see in the dark and the rest of us have to rely on alternate means of light, which I might point out while a necessity also makes us a welcome target to anything that might be out there. We had gone about five miles when we were beset by a beholder. He, or it I am not sure if magical creatures are definable as male or female, obviously did not know who he was fucking with cuz he was owned soon his deflating body was sinking to the floor with no life flickering in his eyes. We continued the rest of the day without incident and set up camp. On the very first watch of the night we were attacked. The people on guard need to realize that if something is attacking the party they don’t need to go see what it is first they need to awaken the group, maybe not the spell casters but the rest of us that don’t need to have a continuous amount of sleep. That way shit like what happened doesn’t. So I was awakened, rudely I might add, by the shouts of Wolftracker. When my eyes adjusted to the dim surroundings it was apparent that not many of the group was awaken by his shout, I did however see some large spider with a drow elf torso protruding up out of it. That jolted me the rest of the way awake. Tordek was up also and he shouted out another warning to the party and that awoke Alistair. The drider scurried around in the ceiling and shot out a glob of webs coating the hallway which I deftly dodged. Merlo and Tharag caught the brunt of it. Wolftracker managed to force his way out of it and charged the creature. It dropped from the ceiling and made the mistake of getting toe to toe with the group, I guess it is true what they say about drow thinking they are better than everyone else. Well this one was about to learn different. I was working my way around behind it well Roksharr finally arrived. We would later learn that he in his infinite wisdom had heard something down the corridor and instead of alerting the rest of the group he went off on his own to check it out, not exactly the smartest thing to do. Either way it was for naught cuz as soon as I had him flanked I jumped onto his fat spider body and slammed my rapier all the way through his rib cage and out the other side. Tordek gave me a look that I understood immediately and drawing attention away from him I got the rest of the group to turn their back on the dead drider so that he could attempt to extract some venom from it. He ended up getting three vials and gave me two of them. They might come in handy. Thankfully the rest of the night was uneventful.

We made it the rest of the way to the Koa-toa shrine without mishap, and worked our way down a long winding stair to the base of an underwater lake. As we were standing there a boat approached with one of the little bug eyed fish people in it. He said “seek you the eye of darkness I guide you through the maw”. Sounded good to me knowing the hardships we had the last time we had to swim, the rest of the group must have been thinking the same thing cuz they all agreed and the little fish dude pointed to Alistair, Roksharr, Merlo, and Tordek to hop in the boat and started off to the other side of the lake. Well not long after they disappeared into the mist those of us still on the shore heard a shout followed by a large splash. Well that is never a good sign so I started into the water with Wolftracker beside me. Franklin had the foresight to call his warhorse and it appeared beside him, he mounted it and headed into the water. It was a good thing to cuz it got deep fast and he was able to grab me and Wolftracker and pull us along with him as his horse swam across. When we got to the other side there was a mad sputtering Alistair swearing revenge on the little fish bastard. It appeared he had no intention of taking them all the way across. I am just glad I wasn’t on the boat. Merlo was coughing up a bunch of water so I figured he did his usual and tried to walk across the bottom of the lake, he swims about as well as a rock.
Well as we walked up the stairs toward the shrine we were welcomed by a hail of crossbow bolts. The entrance to this place looked like a large fish head and the bolts came from its empty eye sockets, well I guess they weren’t empty since something was shooting at us. There was no way for us to get up to them except maybe via a staircase in side so we charged up the stairs in front of the place and began looking around.as I got to the top of the stairs I heard a resounding boom indicating that Alistair had had enough and sent a fireball up to clear out one of the eyes. Not that it mattered to me I was close enough that they couldn’t aim at me. Roksharr and I made it in to the shrine and we had a large door to the front of us a barred entry to one side and another entry covered by a ratty curtain. I was getting ready to search out the door when a bunch more Koa-toa burst out of the passage way covered by the curtain. They swarmed over the entry way like angry ants carrying rapiers, shields, and hand crossbows. They would have been smarter to stay hidden, as the full force of the group closed in on them it was all over but the cleaning up of the blood and gore. All though at one point near the end of the battle Franklin got his sword stuck to the shield of one of those bastards and couldn’t get it free so he just grappled him. I was going to stick him, even though there was a chance that I would have stabbed Franklin but Alistair blasted him with a magic missile before I got the chance.
